Dame Barbara Windsor, best known for her roles in Eastenders and Carry On, has passed away from Alzheimers at the age of 83.
Her husband Scott Mitchell confirmed the news in a statement.
“It is with deep sadness that I can confirm that my darling wife Barbara passed away at 8.35pm on Thursday 10 December at a London care home,” Mitchell said.
“Her passing was from Alzheimer’s/dementia and Barbara eventually died peacefully and I spent the last seven days by her side.”
After making her stage debut at the age of 13, Dame Barbara went on to star in 9 of 31 Carry On films.
In 1994, Dame Barbara made her debut as fiery landlady Peggy Mitchell, mother of characters Phil and Grant, in Eastenders and instantly became a hit with fans with catchphrases such as “Get outta my pub!” and “Sling your ‘ook!”.
Her final appearance in the soap came in 2016, two years after she was diagnosed with Alzheimers. She was moved to a care home earlier this year.
Her husband Mr Mitchell said she will be remembered for the “love, fun, friendship and brightness she brought to all our lives”.
