Legendary activist Darcus Howe has passed away today at the age of 74.
Howe was a broadcaster, writer and civil rights activist, making a name for himself in 1970s and 80s as part of the British Black Panther group.
Howe arrived in England from Trinidad at the age of 18, initially intending on studying law, however quickly found his true calling. As well as his political protest work, Howe was also editor if Race Today and chairman of the Notting Hill Carnival. He also had a show on Channel 4 called Black on Black.
More recently, Howe came to prominence after a powerful interview with BBC News in light of the 2011 Hackney riots.
Howe’s legacy lives on through his seven children.
