Hairdresser Daryll Row has been charged with trying to infect 10 different men with HIV after meeting them on the dating app Grinder.
He successfully infected 5 of the men with the virus. One of his victims made a statement to police detailing the damage Row had inflicted on his life:
“A part of me died that day when I was diagnosed.
The old me is no longer. The new me is constantly sad, thinking about how my life changed.
I have been devastated by Rowe’s actions but I want to make sure that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
Row was given a life sentence, which means a minimum of 12 years in prision. Judge Christine Henson QC told Row he carried out a: “determined hateful campaign of sly violence” she went on to declare:
“With the full knowledge of the risk you posed to others in a deliberate campaign to infect other men with HIV.
Unfortunately for five of the men you met, your campaign was successful.”
The 27 year old was based in Brighton at the time of the attacks. During the trial he told the court he believed he had been cured of HIV when he moved to the town, having started drinking his own urine as a treatment. He was convicted of five charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and five of attempting to do so.
