Marvel comic book fans will be excited to learn that a third Deadpool film is officially on the way according to the movie’s star Ryan Reynolds.
Revealing the news during a Christmas appearance on a talk show, the actor said, “We’re working on it right now with the whole team. We’re over at Marvel now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It’s kinda crazy. So yeah, we’re working on it.”
The film’s move to Marvel Studios (Disney) means that Deadpool can be introduced to new characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on screen. This was not previously possible due to licensing and contractual issues.
Several gags and scripted references were made to this in the first Deadpool film; with the eponymous character mocking the lack of creative freedom that the producers had and the restrictions that were imposed on them by Marvel and Disney during the film’s production process.
With Marvel now steering the ship, the likelihood of Deadpool joining forces with Spider-Man, Thor or Ant-Man is slim but not impossible.
The last Deadpool film was released in 2018 and grossed over $785 million at the box office. The film centred around the X-Men characters and saw the foul-mouthed superhero embark on another new adventure.
With no release date yet, fans will have to be patient and wait to see when Deadpool 3 comes to a nearby cinema.
