Diane Abbott has apologised after being caught drinking alcohol on an overground train.

The Shadow Home Secretary and MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington was snapped drinking an M&S branded can of the mojito cocktail which mixes white rum, sugar and mint.

The picture was published by tabloid newspapers and the MP took to Twitter to apologise for her actions. Diane said, “A photo of me drinking from a can of M&S mojito on the Overground has been circulated. I’m sincerely sorry for drinking on TFL.”

Under current law, “anyone caught consuming alcohol may be prosecuted” by the police for drinking alcohol or for having an open container of alcohol on the TFL network.

Diane Abbott’s statement received a reaction from many including Tottenham MP David Lammy.
