Doctor Who has made history by casting its first ever black Doctor.

Jo Martin was revealed to be the latest Doctor during Sunday night’s episode (January 26), becoming the first black Doctor Who and the second female Doctor.

After the airing of the episode, Martin took to Twitter to post a selfie in her Doctor gear.

Jo Martin has previously played roles in shows such as Holby City, Silent Witness, Top Boy and many other popular programmes.

News of the first black Doctor Who is a big moment in the show’s history, and in British culture, with Twitters using branding the casting as “brilliant”, “wonderful and “monumental”.
