December is fast approaching, and the race for the Christmas number one spot is on. Long gone are the days where a generic X Factor winner would take the crown year after year, the top spot is open to anyone. Big Shaq? Stormzy? The Kurupt Boys? All three have performed well this week and could be in with a chance, the race is on. Keep your eyes peeled on the charts in the next four weeks to track the movements, this is going to be interesting!
Back to this week and back to Big Shaq. The viral sensation made it into the top ten last week with “Mans not Hot” and he isn’t going anywhere fast, sitting at number six this week after last week’s eighth place. Videos are continuing to circulate the internet of people from all around the world, in the most unlikely scenarios, recreating the track, the buzz on Shaq isn’t fading anytime soon. Just an update, the video for the song is now at 77 million views and growing. We’re predicting this isn’t the end of his climb of the charts, just watch this space.
Sitting just below Shaq at number seven is Stormzy, with “Blinded by your Grace Part 2” featuring MNEK. After 32 weeks in the chart it’s continuing to perform outstandingly. It’s a well deserved achievement from the young star. His album, the brilliant Gang Signs and Prayer is sitting at number 34.
Not3s has had an incredible year. His first EP Take Not3s dropped this week at number 43 with digital sales only. If you haven’t had a listen yet, it has features with MoStack, Tinie Tempah and Shakka and really is something special. His track “My Lover” from the Take Not3s project is sitting at number 38 this week, a huge jump from last week’s 61, helped by the release of the EP. His track with MoStack 99+1 also entered at 82 on the charts. This guy keeps going from strength to strength, purely off his talent, getting people talking in both mainstream and underground circles. More chart success coming his way.
The banger that is Dave and MoStack’s “No Words” is at 23 this week after last weeks 22. The Game Over EP which the track comes from is at number 60 in the album chart. It’s a successful and original project from him and hopefully we shall get an album from him in the new year.
Stefflon Don has two tracks worth mentioning this week. Firstly, her new single with the one and only Skepta “Ding-a-Ling” has entered at 64. No visuals have been released for this one so far so keep your eyes open for that. Her track with French Montana, “Hurtin Me” is 32. She is killing in both in the UK and stateside at the moment, expect even bigger moves from her in the next few months.
Pioneers of the scene Kurupt FM delighted the world by releasing their compilation album The Lost Tapes this week. The CD is a copy of a mix the boys put together back in 2011 and features tracks from Dizzee Rascal and Wiley. Its entered at number 29 on the compilation album charts which we’re sure the guys will celebrate in style. You can catch them talking more on the tapes on their hilarious Not for the Radio interview this week, here.
Also worth mentioning is J Hus’s track “Bouff Daddy” from one of the greatest albums of the year Common Sense. It’s had some very wavy visuals released this week and is sitting at 74. He’s on tour at the moment but had previously been debuting some new music of his via Instagram so expect cold new sounds from him in 2018.
And that’s it! Have a check back next week, there’s some crazy new projects entering the charts as well as that Christmas number one race well and truly beginning. We’ll have all the info for you here on GRM Daily.
