Dr Dre is one of the most prolific producers and artists in hip hop history. His project “Detox” was years in the making, but unfortunately has been scrapped due to Dre not liking it. On the plus side, we will get new Dr. Dre tonight on Apple Music where he will be playing his new project “Compton” on repeat for three hours (6PM PST). The official release will be out tomorrow for purchase.

The project “Compton” is a direct companion to the biopic “Straight Outta Compton” based around the notorious rap group, NWA. As much as fans are excited for the project, it’s also a unfortunate goodbye to Dre as he says this will be his “grand finale”.

Zane Lowe’s show on Beats 1 had an announcement from Dre himself today, that all the royalties he will receive from the “Compton” project; he will donate to help build an arts and entertainment facility in the city he based his project from. Dre will be working with Compton Mayor; Aja Brown to help build the centre. “I feel it’s the right thing to do. I hope everyone appreciates it”.

The new project is boasting features from Eminem, Xzibit, Kendrick Lamar and more. This is a project Dre is very proud of; “I kept it under wraps, and now the album is finished. It’s bananas…. I’m really proud of this.”

We can’t wait to hear the project and we are even more excited to see the movie. Watch the trailer below:

“Compton” is out on the 7th August.
