Last week Sprite revealed it’s newest campaign, “Obey Your Verse”, adding the hip-hop spirit to their slogan “Obey Your Thirst”. The project was announced during a Drake & Nas Sprite-sponsored show in February, and is a return to the original campaign from the 90’s, which featured Nas, AZ, KRS-ONE, Grand Puba, Pete Rock & CL Smooth.
The new project sees 16 limited edition cans, bottles and multipacks decorated with lyrics from old-school and contemporary iconic rappers Drake, Nas, Biggie and Rakim, and will feature five lyrics from each rapper from songs like Drake’s ‘”1-100″, Nas’ “If I Ruled the World”, Rakim’s “Paid in Full”, Biggie’s “One More Chance” and others.
Sprite chose the rappers due to their “reputation for being true to themselves through their music and advancing the culture.” The packs are available exclusively over summer, but it seems like unfortunately they’ll only be available in America.
“Legacy means everything to me,” said Nas. “When I wrote these lyrics, I never imagined my fans would someday have the opportunity to enjoy a can of Sprite and experience my art in a totally original way.”
The advert for the campaign, named “Lyrical Collection”, was shown before Sunday night’s 5th game of the NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, and featured footage from January’s concert.
