Drillminister returns to offer another controversial track after the popularity of ”Political Drilling”, the anthem that was commissioned by Channel 4 last month. This time, the creative artist focuses on ”Brexit”.

In ”Political Drilling”, the anonymous artist highlighted the hypocrisy of politicians that criticise the content and purpose of Drill music, using their own quotes to show the inequitable double standard. Drillminister utilised the quotes of MPs, making them indistinguishable from the violent imagery featured in the controversial genre of Drill.

Many shocking sentences were included: ”I will not rest until she’s chopped up in bags in my freezer” (George Osborne, former Chancellor of the Exchequer for the Conservatives) and ”Who the f*ck do you think you are” (Jess Phillips MP, Labour Member of Parliament for Birmingham Yardley). Politicians have the freedom to normalise violence, misogyny, harassment and bullying for dramatic purposes; it seems odd to punish Drill artists for doing the same.

In his second offering, Drillminister returns to the musical (and political) scene to talk about ”Brexit”. The song opens with an audio extract from Susanna Reid, the ITV presenter who hosted the Good Morning Britain interview featuring Drillminister, alongside Dawn Butler (Labour Member of Parliament for Brent Central) and Tom Slater (Deputy Editor at Spike).

The track sees Drillminister literally and metaphorically connect the political negotiations to street politics, with references to ”deal”, ”Europe”, ”Chequers” and ”no confidence”. Quotes from politicians are included, such as the racial comment ”Watermelon smiles” (Boris Johnson on Commonwealth citizens) and the aggressive exclamatory phrase ”Nobody in Europe has ever heard of you!” (Nigel Farage in EU Parliament).

Once again, a drill instrumental is used to tell the story of discourse in a Britain riddled with uncertainty as the countdown to the EU exit date continues. Check out the video above!
