Learner drivers are being forced to pay resellers up to £200 for driving tests due to the shortage caused by the pandemic.

The standard fee for a driving test is either £62 or £75 when booked directly with the DVSA but learner drivers have revealed that they are paying up to £235 to take a driving test.

An investigation by the BBC found that people were using AI-powered software to bulk buy driving tests that they’d later sell back to learners.

A spokesman for the Approved Driving Instructors’ National Joint Council said, “We urge applicants not to use any third-party cancellation checking services and to always go through the official DVSA website.

“We’ve already put in place measures to monitor and prevent bots from accessing our systems, while also strengthening our firewall to tackle the issue.”

In other driving news, a survey by findandfindmycar.com found that many road users were unaware of Rule 110 and 111 of the Highway Code that warns that drivers could be fined up to £1000 for using their headlights to flash other motorists.

The rule says. “Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there.

“Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed.  Use your own judgement and proceed carefully.”
