Under new UK Regulations, drone owners will now need to register their device, complete an online theory test and pay a £9 fee before they can get it up in the air.

It’s now a new legal requirement that if your drone weighs more than 250g (8.8oz) then it needs to be registered. Failing to do so could cost you a £1000 fine.

The new requirement is aimed at tackling the rising number of drone-related incidents.

With 125 incidents reported last year and a further 87 so far in 2019, the new requirement hopes to pull these numbers down considerably in 2020.

It’s been revealed that only 40,000 of the estimated 90,000 UK drone owners have registered their devices so far.

Retailers across the country are preparing their staff to inform customers about the new requirements over the festive period with drones selling particularly well as gifts.
