EE will officially become the first UK network provider to deliver 5G services by the end of this month.

At an event today (May 22), EE’s CEO Marc Allera announced: “It is day one of our 5G journey”.

The difference between 4G and 5G is supposedly significant, with this new-generation network allowing users to search and download from the internet 50-times faster than its forerunner. 5G is set to change the way customers use their devices with much-improved streaming speeds and a more reliable signal.

The network says that 5G will be available for customers on the 30th May with London, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, and Manchester to have first access. Areas to follow throughout the year will be across an additional ten areas: Bristol, Coventry, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham, and Sheffield.

Vodafone had previously announced that they would be providing 5G at a later date of 3rd July, but a formal confirmation is still pending.
