The self-proclaimed “Chuck Norris with a thesaurus” is back, with a politically-laced release at a time which couldn’t be more appropriate in the US election period.
The references to George Zimmerman, Kaepernick, Operation Desert Storm and more, make it clear just how important hip-hop and other types of urban music have become in expressing political opinion.
From Dizzee Rascal joking about becoming Prime Minister, to Kanye seriously announcing a presidential candidacy bid; from Novelist backing Corbyn, to Bernie entering a rally to DMX’s “Where the Hood At”; it seems like it’s only a matter of time before we hear bars being spat during Prime Minister’s Questions.
Anyhows, back to Shady. Another great example of the power of (almost) accapella bars in showing political criticism and opinion. The overdrive guitar and simplistic beat is a touch overused recently, but it doesn’t take away from Eminem’s powerful message in his lyrics here.
