We’ve all seen it by now, the new challenge to be taking the world by storm is the #faceappchallenge. The app uses “artificial intelligence” to change the users’ photos to see what they would look like in 50+ years from now amongst other features.

It’s recently come to light that the Russian-owned app has led to multiple warnings about what else they could be doing with your photos.

Once a user submits a photo to the app to edit, it goes onto the FaceApp’s server, essentially giving your photo to the company, and that might not be all you’re giving over.

Many have pointed out that the photos you upload can be used by FaceApp in other ways other than editing funny facial changes.

The app’s terms give the company the ability to use the photo in any way they’d like without having to let the user know.

The apps terms read; “You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”

Essentially, the photo you upload to FaceApp can be used in any public way they decide.

As well as having access to your photos, the company privacy policy can collect and store information used for advertising and marketing too.

It’s been warned that it’s best to avoid using the app or being cautious on the photos you chose to upload.
