As the big rebrand for social media giants Facebook has been revealed, you may struggle to see the difference.
However, we can confirm that Facebook is now FACEBOOK. So, in essence, they have switched their logo from lower case to caps-lock. In addition to the name being capitalised, the logo is said to be “custom typography.”
As the rebrand was announced in a company blog post, Facebook stated that their new logo was set to be introduced to better advertise everything now being offered on the platform. The post read: “Today, we’re updating our company branding to be clearer about the products that come from Facebook.”
The logo will appear on Instagram, WhatsApp and by other services offered by Facebook, meaning that it will place the “from Facebook” messaging that had been featured in both WhatsApp and Instagram.
While the rebrand may seem insignificant, it was a necessary move so that the FTC doesn’t consider the lack of branding on Facebook-owned apps to be deceptive.
Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, said in a post that also went live yesterday: “Many people don’t know we build these products… but we believe people should because it’s important for people to know who’s behind the products they use.”
