A police officer has been charged with assault and criminal damage after attacking a “suspect’s” car with a blade.

Pc Joshua Savage is to appear at Westminster Magistrate’s Court to face the charges, following the incident in which he smashed the windscreen of a car, before sawing it with a large knife during a stop and search.

The incident went viral last year, as the driver recorded the officer and the actions, ending up being viewed hundreds of thousands of time online.

In the video, the officer can be heard yelling “get out the car” and “you’re not allowed to drive it” during the altercation on Vicars Road in Camden.

The Met Police have said he remains on restricted duties and faces a misconduct review. He will finally appear in court on April 20th.
