Former high school teacher Haeli Wey has admitted to having sex with two underage pupils, but has avoided her prison sentence.
28-year-old Wey had sex with her 17-year-old student 10 times within two months, after a trip to Africa with his family in 2015. She was also involved with a second boy the same year during a camping trip and insinuated that he should bring a hammock whilst hiking.
The former teacher has avoided a potential 20 year prison sentence and name on the sex offenders list, providing she doesn’t fail her 10 year probation and 200 hour community service charge.
Wey’s lawyer Larry Sauer stated, “The judge found that he had enough evidence to find her guilty but did not and placed her on a 10-year deferred adjudication probation.
“Basically it means that as long as she completes everything without any problems then the case will be dismissed and she will never have been convicted of a felony.
“Since this has gotten so much attention it’s … wearing on her. But I think she’s going to be fine.”
Wey voluntarily surrendered her teaching certificate and pleaded guilty to improper relationships February this year.
