FIFA are reportedly set to expand the World Cup from 32 teams to a staggering 48 teams in a new move by the organisation. The new expansion will come into effect for the 2026 tournament which will open the competition up to new nations.

This will see 16 groups of three in the initial stages, proceeding into a knockout phase for the 32 teams that qualify from the group stages – with the top two in each group qualifying.

However, there are questions surrounding the new change, with a huge profit jump to be made as a result of this new move. The profit jump will reach a rough sum of £521million according to projections which will benefit FIFA hugely.

Could we see the likes of Namibia and American Samoa qualify for the World Cup? Maybe Scotland will FINALLY qualify for a World Cup. Or maybe not.

What do you think of the change? Does it degrade the quality of the completion? Let us know.
