Following much anticipation, the renowned “Hood Documentary” has FINALLY returned to our devices, via the means of BBC Three. The first episode, entitled “Happy Belated”, brings us R.S in his full form, this time with “girlfriend” Rachel, where he takes her out for lunch.

With the return set to spread laughter throughout the country, we thought it would only be right to break it down and give a little review on it.

Entering the BBC world, the #HoodDocumentary has elevated itself to a platform of famous proportions. Taking a cut with regards to duration, it possesses all the same qualities as before, which was a worry. Coming through as a short, we see R.S in familiar surroundings, portraying the lifestyle he doesn’t lead.

A big issue masking the re-branding was the removal of key aspects. One thing that hasn’t changed is his efforts to reign in Rachel, with her boyfriend always in close vicinity distracting her. R.S appeals to the childish side of everyone once again, with the customary idiocy guaranteed to make you laugh.

Despite the undeniable laughter, what worries me is the length of the videos. We are all used to 20+ minute videos from Kayode Ewumi and the issue is whether 8 minutes will be enough. This is coupled with the saturation of the content which will always be a primary concern with the jump upwards. For now, it’s hard to tell if this will be the case throughout the series, but it’s something that will constantly pop up in conversation.

What needs to be remembered is that it will always be hard to emulate the way in which the #HoodDocumentary initially impacted. People are naturally going to look at this as a “sell out” move, but it’s not only harsh, but too early to make that assumption.

“Happy Belated” is a good start, but the apprehension will persist as to whether the new platform will sterilise the content. Language and jokes are at threat of being filtered out, so let’s hope it fails to affect the R.S we all know and love – we’ll wait and see.

Opinions will vary, so let us know what you think of the brand new “Hood Documentary” on Twitter or Facebook.
