NBC Universal, the broadcaster that owns the rights to Fresh Prince, have processed a trademark application for the name Fresh Princess as a television programme.

According to TMZ, NBC are “looking to trademark the Fresh Princess on a bunch of merchandise including bags, backpacks, animal collars and, of course, lots of clothing and footwear”.

The source also states NBC are trying to “lock down the rights to Fresh Princess for virtually every other media platform”.

It is not know if Will Smith, who was the star of the original show, will be apart of the possible reboot, as he claimed “I’m going nowhere near that” when asked about if the show would return.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, in August last year, he added, “I don’t know what would have to happen! Nah man, you can’t touch stuff like that, it’s so nostalgic for the people.”

Despite that rebuttal it is rumoured Will could star as a character similar to Uncle Phil, played by the late James Avery, while his daughter Willow could be considered for the role as The Fresh Princess.

The Fresh Prince was broadcast from 1990 until 1996, it was shown on BBC2 and Trouble in the UK, and is available on Netflix.
