GCSE & A-Level Exams To Be Replaced By Teacher Assessments This Summer

It has now been announced that GCSE and A-Level summer 2021 exams will be replaced by teacher assessments.

The news was revealed by the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, in an address to MPs at the Commons today (January 6) .

He said exams Exams “will not go ahead as planned this year”, adding that the government will put “trust in teachers rather than algorithms.”

News of cancelled exams come a day after schools across England were closed as the nation went into its third national lockdown.

When speaking on England’s education system now compared to when schools closed in the first lockdown last year, Williamson said we are in a “far better place”.

“We’re now better prepared to deliver online learning,” he added. “This is an important step forward in supporting children to make for progress with their education they so desperately need.”
