UPDATE: Nike has posted the following info on their news site; “The 2015 Nike Mag is a limited edition release. It will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The specific details on the auctions will be posted to Nike News and via Twitter @Nike in spring 2016.” Peak for us, but can’t fault Nike for doing something good with the profits.

Nike also added that they want to test similar Mag technology across more of their products and sports, “incorporating feedback into future game-changing footwear with unprecedented performance features that have the potential to impact athletes around the world.” The future looks bright!

Remember back in 2011 when Nike released Marty McFly’s limited-edition replica Nike Mag shoes from Back to the Future? They were perfect replicas but unfortunately didn’t actually self-lace.

But, today is October 21st 2015 – ‘Future day’ and the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled to in Back to the Future 2 in 1989 –  and it appears that the real deal is here.

There are also rumours that the shoes may be released tomorrow to celebrate this odd occasion. Nike tweeted this at Michael J. Fox, sparking rumours of a release for the self-lacing Nike Mag.

If that isn’t enough to get you hyped, Michael J. Fox just tweeted a handwritten letter from Nike designer Tinker Hatfield which reads, “Though that project started out as science fiction, we’re now proud to turn that fiction into fact.” He also mentions more pairs will be released next year to support the Michael J. Fox foundation.

Universal Pictures also made up a few pairs to celebrate the day and as a homage to the film.
