Motives are back and festival season is upon us, but it was Wray & Nephew and Ghetts who brought some of their family together for their first experience of life as we used to know it. The intimate venue (which was inside a 27 million pound derelict hotel in West London!), housed over a hundred people, who were all treated to their first live event in 18 months in the form of a unique Wray Residency

As you might imagine, the energy in the room was electric, almost palpable, as guests were equally buzzing to be outside as much as they were to see Ghetts’ performance. Naturally, once the East London legend stepped on stage, pandemonium ensued as Ghetts performed several cuts from his latest album Conflict of Interest for the first time since it was released back in February.

As you’d expect with a Ghetts set, there were wheel-ups galore, and fans joined in to spit their favourite verses alongside Ghetts himself. Thankfully, this event is not a one off, and is part of the Wray Residency series, which sees Wray team up with both established artists and the up and comers for intimate pop-up events in empty retail spaces and unusual community hotspots across the capital.

Giving back to the communities that the music and culture was born out of is a key part of Wray’s ethos. So all ticket and drink proceeds were donated to a charity close to Ghetts’ heart – Made Up Kitchen. Ghetts even enlisted his favourite Caribbean restaurant Mama Jay’s to supply complimentary food for all the guests after the show.

Be sure to check out how the night went down in the video above right now! Exclusively on GRM Daily.
