Ghetts is amongst the list of creatives who have been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize Album of the Year award, and he’s now spoken about what the nomination means to him.

Chatting with NME, he explained his gratitude for receiving a nomination for his impressively crafted Conflict Of Interest album, which reached Number 2 in the charts back in February.

He said: [It feels] crazy. The acknowledgment, such a prestige award as well, it’s not an ‘everyone’ award, you know. We look at the nominees in the past, you look at the people who win, these are all incredible artists in terms of the art, so it feels good. That’s what I represent, so it feels amazing to be here as somebody that represents the art.”

Going on to explain how he thinks his efforts with his latest project have landed him as one of the nominees, Ghetts added: “I think just the vulnerability,” before explaining that “wearing his heart on his sleeve” attributed to the rawness of the album.

The Mercury Prize acknowledges talent from various genres and is known to celebrate the very best of UK artists.

The winner of the 2021 Hyundai Mercury Prize will be announced on September 9th during the ceremony.
