As part of our Give Daily initiative, we’re highlighting 12 charities and social enterprises to support and today the spotlight is on Shelter.

As a charity devoted to ending homelessness in the UK, Shelter helps millions of people every year who are struggling with bad housing or homelessness.

Shelter offer a range of services such as face-to-face and online advice, a free national helpline for support and free legal services from solicitors.

The organisation also carries out ground-breaking research into the UK’s housing problem, and also campaign to the government to do more to resolve the housing crisis in the country.

Speaking on Christmas and homelessness this year, Chief Executive of Shelter Polly Neate said: “Many people will spend Christmas in grim, dangerous places, cut off from loved ones and faced with a daily struggle to eat or keep clean. As the country continues to reel from the financial shockwaves caused by the pandemic, our services will do all they can to support those battling homelessness.

“This year has been unbelievably tough, but with the public’s generous support we will do our best to give hope and help to everyone who needs us.”

There are various ways you can offer support for Shelter – such as volunteering and donating money or items – and for more information on the organisation and how you can help, click here.
