As part of our Give Daily initiative, we’re highlighting 12 charities and social enterprises to support and today the spotlight is on St Basils.
Operating in the West Midlands, St Basils is an organisation devoted to preventing youth homelessness by working with young people to boost their confidence and to increase their chances of finding opportunities.
St Basils offers a range of services such as emergency accommodation, family mediation, face-to-face advice, an employability programme and more.
At a time when so many young people are out of work due to the coronavirus pandemic, the work of organisations such as St Basils is so essential.
Of coronavirus’ impact, St Basils said in a statement: “The focus has quite rightly been on responding to Covid-19, but our work to support young people in the West Midlands who have experienced life without a home has continued throughout this period and will always be our focus.
“Like many charities, we are facing the prospect of losing a substantial amount of the charitable income which pays for much of the support we can offer to young people under our care. (By the looks of it, it will be at least 35%) That means our ability to support those in need could be compromised.
“If Covid-19 has taught us one thing, it is that support for people in crisis is more vital than ever.”
