As part of our Give Daily initiative, we’re highlighting 12 charities and social enterprises to support and today the spotlight is on The Trussell Trust.

With a vision to end the need for food banks, The Trussell Trust is committed to stopping hunger in the UK and provides emergency food and support to food banks up and down the country.

The 1,200 food banks in The Trussell Trust’s network are supplied with a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis (for instance by advice agencies, GPs, social services and schools). The Trussell Trust also give support to people in food banks by assisting them in resolving the crises they face.

The coronavirus has undoubtedly caused a big financial strain on many families in the UK, with The Trussell Trust recently reporting that around half of people who used a food bank towards the start of the pandemic had never needed one before.

In the first six months of the pandemic, food banks gave out 2,600 parcels to children in the UK and while this positively impacted many, there’s still more to be done to stop hunger and that’s why The Trussell Trust is calling for your support of its #HungerFreeFuture campaign.

The Trussell Trust is urging you to use your voice, support and agreement that everyone should be able to afford the essentials in life, such as food.

In a statement, The Trussell Trust said: “It’s shown that when we come together to push for change, united by our desire for justice and compassion, the government responds, and action can be taken to protect people’s incomes.”

They added: “If we act together we can build a future where no one goes hungry and everyone has enough money for the basics.”
