What’s great about the young and developing scene we have in London (and beyond), is the sheer diversity of it. It seems every day a new artist is coming to our attention, sounding new and innovative and original, yet still so distinctly British.
Artists are getting weird and artists are getting experimental, and it’s due time we started highlighting some of these creatives that may otherwise slip under our radar. With that being said, welcome back to Go Left; GRM’s guide to alternative grime, hip-hop and R&B, the best of what you may not have heard yet.
Kicking things off on Go Left this week is wavy rapper Reppatwa once again, with “Know What It Means”, a vibey refix of Lancey Foux’s “Do You Like It”. Next up North London rapper hvq. from The UnkNWn collective, who features with “Costa”. The song is super dope and contains soulful lyrics/vocals over a sentimental beat.
“Vibes” by R&B artist p-rallel featuring Temz Cicero and Lord Apex also makes the list, which is taken from his recent EP The Soul Trip – and yes, you guessed it – it is a relaxed, spacey track to get sky high to. This is followed by a similarly ethereal and divine record by London singer Cosima, who gifts us with “Girls Who Get Ready”.
Last but not least we have a KwolleM remix of the Nottingham Saviour Snowy’s “Durt” including a saxophone lead instrumental which is almost unrecognisable from the original.
We will be uploading more alternative videos onto our YouTube channel. If you fit in with those who don’t fit in, are part of the Go Left gang and have something wavy for us, send an email to [email protected]
