New details have emerged on the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie and following a recent interview with James Gunn, the director of the film, many are convinced that James has revealed the fate of a much-loved character.
Speaking about Rocket, James Gunn said, “Rocket is me, he really is, even if that sounds narcissistic. I relate to Rocket and I feel compassion for Rocket, but I also feel like his story has not been completed. Rocket has an arc that started in the first movie, continued into the second and goes through Infinity War and Endgame, and then I was set to really finish that arc in Guardians 3. That was a big loss to me – not being able to finish that story”.
James Gunn is referring to the recent controversy where he was fired from the movie after tweets emerged from a decade ago where the director made jokes about sexual assault and paedophiles. The director was since rehired by Disney in March after Gunn’s departure threatened the billion dollar grossing franchise.
Fans of the series will know that Rocket’s species have a very short lifespan in comparison to the other characters. Because of this and James Gunn’s comments that he aims to “finish” the story in the third movie, many are speculating that this essentially means Rocket will die.
It has also been reported that pop star Lady Gaga will star in the new movie as a potential love interest for Rocket; marking the second time Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will be co-stars following their Oscar award-winning film A Star is Born.
