The actor, famous for his roles in Luther and The Wire, posted a tweet that got his fans excited at the prospect.

Barbara Broccolli, a producer for the James Bond franchise, recently said “it was time” for a black actor to take the role.

Responding to rumours Elba could fill the role, she added, “Idris could do it, you need a guy with a physically strong presence, Idris has that.”

In 2016, Elba himself claimed he was “too old” to play Bond and only “the will of the nation could make it happen.”

The oldest person to play Bond was Roger Moore, who was 45, the same age Elba is now.

The next Bond film is scheduled for October next year and will be Daniel Craig’s last in the role.
