We previously reported on a rumoured Game of Thrones prequel and now, HBO have confirmed the series.

The series – titled House Of The Dragon – is due to be released on HBO’s forthcoming streaming service, which will be launched in the U.S. at the price of $14.99 (£11.65) a month. There is no launch date for the streaming service in the UK as of yet.

House Of The Dragon
will kick off with ten episodes and will be set 300 years before the original series of Game Of Thrones, focusing on the House of Targaryen.

Speaking on the series following its announcement, HBO said it would feature “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour”.

In Game of Thrones, British actress Emilia Clarke played Danenerys Targaryen but the cast for the prequel has not yet been revealed. HBO have also not yet announced a date for the premiere of House of the Dragon.

In a blog post in September, Game of Thrones franchise creator said there were five GOT-related shows in development so perhaps we can expect a few more big announcements in the future.
