Clothing and lifestyle brand, Trapstar, joined forces with UK charity Westway Trust, to celebrate the next generation of young talent in a community based football tournament at Westway Sports Centre for Myeloma UK.
The Trapstar Goals Tournament acted as a launch for the Trapstar Ball Manipulation scheme, an initiative curated by Trapstar where members of the core team and recognised talent within football visit local schools across London to offer expertise, tips and advice on becoming a professional footballer. With the rate of obesity set to increase in London by 74% in men and 64% in women, according to WHO, Trapstar aims to encourage the children of the younger generation to set aside more time for physical activity by giving local schools the opportunity to practice and hone in on their skills at the Westway Sports Centre pitch for two hours every Sunday. This initiative is due to launch in September 2015.
The Trapstar Goals Tournament saw a total of ten teams – four men’s and six women’s – compete in a five-aside showdown in the chance of winning the ultimate Infamous Dream Team Cup. Trapstar carefully handpicked each of the teams based on passion, skill and performance which were comprised of Trapstar’s male and female teams, community players from Westway Sports and Hackney Laces and fashion, music and lifestyle brands including the likes of PMR, Puma, Boiler Room Ladies FC, Wonder Kid, Beyond Borders and Food & Lycra.
The Trapstar Women’s team brought it home for the girls by winning the Infamous Dream Team Cup and after some serious tackling, passing and kicking, PMR were crowned the winners on the boys side.
In addition to the playoffs, Trapstar hosted a charity raffle and auction which consisted of Trapstar product signed by pop songstress Rita Ora and QPR football player Bobby Zamora. A total of £750 pounds was raised on the day which was donated to Myeloma UK, a bone marrow cancer for which there is no cure but many effective treatments. Following on from Saturday, further funds have been donated to Myeloma UK on behalf of the Trapstar Goals Tournament event.
Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK which details with myeloma and as a rare and relatively unknown cancer; fundraising is a great opportunity to raise awareness about myeloma and the programmes and services the organisation provides to patients and their families.
Although Trapstar’s affiliation with football is a natural fit for the brand, with internationally-recognised pro football player Daniel Sturridge sporting new collections and recent product ranges taking inspiration from the culture, the event also aimed to provide a platform for women, allowing them to showcase their skills and give them the chance to represent women in football within a male-dominated arena.
Co-founder of Trapstar, Lee Trapstar, commented: “Football and its surrounding culture has always been a passion of mine; whether it was kicking a ball at a local pitch as a child or being stuck inside playing ISS & Fifa. It’s always been a goal of mine to create a community based football tournament where all are welcome to attend. It is also exciting to see a vast amount of young but equally skilled players emerging within the scene and knowing that the Trapstar Goals Tournament may even give birth to the next Beckham”.
