2017 is sick already. The first big piece of news to come from across the pond this year has been the absolute jokes story that somebody rearranged the iconic Hollywood sign to read “Hollyweed”.
Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the news this morning saying the sign had been “vandalised” (code word for made better) and they had sent some officers to investigate the situation. They seem to be acting pretty chill about the whole thing, saying they’re only treating it as “minor trespass”. This is California though, where weed is already legal, so maybe they’re just high.
Unfortunately the fun didn’t last long, as word has it that the sign has already been returned to its original state. Spoil sports.
This isn’t the first time the iconic landmark has had its appearance altered. When the sign was first erected in the 1920’s it originally read “Hollywoodland” and was used as a marketing ploy for a new housing estate.
King of political comedy, Danny Finegood, had a tendency to alter the sign as part of his pranks. Over the years he changed the sign to read “Ollywood” (referring to Oliver North, a corrupt Marine official), “Oil War” and even to “Hollyweed” in the 1976. Finegood passed in 2007, could whoever the culprit was this time be paying tribute?
