It looks like summer is well and truly over as the weather system that has produced Hurricane Lorenzo is heading towards the UK this week.
Notably one of the strongest storms to ever be recorded in the far-east Atlantic is likely to head in a north-easterly track towards the UK and Ireland.
Lorenzo, currently situated in Portugal’s Azores islands, is set to bring a storm this coming Thursday. Officials at the met office have done their best to keep us updated on the situation, including meteorologist Luke Miall who reported “slow moving clouds on Tuesday means we could see as much as 40 to 50mm [of rainfall] maybe in a couple of hours in some spots”.
With dramatic images already surfacing of people knees deep in water and stranded as they try to kayak their way out of the streets, the Met Office have officially declared a yellow weather warning.
In the last few days the UK has accumulated 150 flood alerts, some of which are set to bring more misery as the days go on.
Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, Dan Suri has delivered an official statement: “Our advice is to pay close attention to the weather forecast over the next couple of days and to keep an eye out for any weather warnings that may be issued in your area.”
