Idris Elba seems to be flipping his quarantine into a creative opportunity with a reflective and relevant track “Music Therapy” that he dropped on IGTV.

The almost four-minute-long rap song narrates the current Covid-19 crisis, in light of the multi-talented entertainer’s recent positive testing.

Idris, looking at the wider picture highlights the fears for the future and what happens next, the severity of the current situation and the need to keep safe in the current climate. He also addresses the internet rumour that black people are immune to the virus.

Idris eloquently ties this all together in a very well structured lyrical plot, creating a metaphor which likens the entirety of the situation to a poorly organised movie set in which no one really knows what’s going on.

Throughout his verses, he highlights that on this movie set there are no rehearsals, scripts or second takes. The overall poignant take away from the track is quite sobering, he’s saying quite clearly we have to get this right the first time.

Historically, music often becomes the backdrop to a narrative of how people are feeling in times of crisis.

Quarantine and isolation may have led to this track’s creation, but the content is highly reflective of the thoughts and feelings being expressed by so many people. Even with the political undertone, there is something incredibly human about this track which people can really connect to right now.
