Last year it was revealed that Idris Elba was working on a film entitled ‘Yardie’ and now the star has released the official trailer for his directorial debut.
The film, which is an adaptation of Victor Headley’s 1992 novel ‘Yardie’, is a crime drama set in 1970s Jamaica and 1980s England and follows the life of a young Jamaican man who seeks to avenge the murder of his older brother.
Elba took to Twitter on Friday morning (1 June) to share the trailer with his followers. The trailer was also accompanied by a few words from the actor-turned-director who provides a brief insight into the making of the film.
“It was an opportunity for me to bring everything that I love, from photography to music to acting, into one art form”, explains Elba.
“Big ups to all the actors that worked on the film, thank you so much guys!”
Among the all-star cast is Aml Ameen, who plays the film’s lead D, and Stephen Graham who acts as London gangster Rico.
‘Yardie’ is premiering at London’s Sundance Festival this weekend and is yet to receive an official general release date.
