Since coming out back in January, Atlanta rapper iLoveMakonnen has stayed relatively quiet on the scene.

It’s not everyday a member of the hip hop community comes out as gay and of course this meant that after Makonnen tweeted “and since y’all love breaking news, here’s some old news to break, I’m gay” the whole world took notice.

Controversy followed when long time Makonnen collaborators, Migos, did a feature interview for Rolling Stone. When the subject of Makonnen’s sexuality came up, the trio were shocked and seemingly upset at the amount of support Makonnen was getting from fans and the hip hop community. “They supported him?” Quavo asks. “That’s because the world is fucked up,” Replies Offset. Takeoff adds, “This world is not right.”

A slight media frenzy ensued after this feature was released with a lot of people accusing the Georgian trappers of being homophobic. Quavo later stated he couldn’t be homophobic because him and Frank Ocean both appear on the same track (recently released Calvin Harris joint “Slide”). Speaking to Billboard he said, “when [Makonnen’s] music came out I thought it was hard, so if he would’ve come out the same way… I got a record with Frank Ocean. That closes my case.”

Now, in a recent interview with The Fader, iLoveMakonnen addressed the comments for the first time. When asked if he believed Migos were actually homophobic he responded, “Hell nah, they ain’t got no problem with gay people! They fuckin’ song is “Versace”! Like, the fuck! Nigga, [Gianni] Versace is the gayest nigga. They ain’t got issues with him, why they got issues with me?”

Looks like everyone is still friends then.
