Instagram is encouraging people to stay indoors with a new ‘co-watching’ feature that allows people to view content with friends.
The new update was created to counter misinformation, make the platform a healthier place and to encourage users to stay inside.
The co-watching tool lets people get together in video chat and then pick through photos or videos together, enabling you to discuss anything that’s on the screen. The app is built into the video chat function, which can be accessed from direct messages. It begins as a standard video chat with a single person or group, and then the images can be exchanged from within.
The feature was added to Instagram in the hope of helping people to feel more connected while at home and to practice social distancing.
“Co-watching” is just one of a number of different changes coming to the app as Instagram and Facebook attempt to deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
