Instagram has added a brand-new function that allows users to create blog-type posts for the very first time.
The new Instagram Guides section resembles blog articles and allows users to include photos, videos, and words. The app focused primarily on photos when Instagram first emerged but video has become an immense part of Instagram in recent years including IGTV and live streams. Now, it seems that blogging is going to be a huge part of the app too.
Guides appear as a separate section on your profile but can be linked back to regular posts and stories. The app’s early guides appear to be centred around well-being, improving your mental health and learning new activities, but the Guides tool can be used to explain anything you like.
Announcing the feature, Instagram said: “We want Instagram to be a place where you can easily find reliable information and inspiration from your favorite accounts.
“That’s why we are introducing Guides, a way to more easily discover recommendations, tips and other content from your favorite creators, public figures, organizations and publishers on Instagram.”
Unfortunately, not everyone can create guides just yet. The feature is currently only available to a select few “partner” users chosen by Instagram but it is likely that Guides will roll out over time to more users.
The good news is that anyone can view these Instagram Guides but first, make sure you’ve updated your Instagram app to the latest version.
