Following mass backlash from its users, Instagram is now deciding to pause the rollout of some of its new changes.
Over the past few weeks, Instagram has been testing changes which placed an emphasis on Reels, which sparked outrage from its users – including Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian – who accused the social media platform of mimicking TikTok.
It looks like the backlash has forced Instagram to reconsider its changes as Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, has now announced it will be rolling back on the new features.
“I’m glad we took a risk – if we’re not failing every once in a while, we’re not thinking big enough or bold enough,” Mosseri said in an interview with tech newsletter Platformer on Thursday. “But we definitely need to take a big step back and regroup. [When] we’ve learned a lot, then we come back with some sort of new idea or iteration. So we’re going to work through that.”
He added: “For the new feed designs, people are frustrated and the usage data isn’t great.
“So there I think that we need to take a big step back, regroup, and figure out how we want to move forward.”
As well as re-thinking its emphasis on Reels, the app will also tone down changes to the algorithm which led to an increase in recommended posts from accounts that users are not following.
