Marvel fans can rejoice as Robert Downey Jr. is set to reprise his role as Iron Man next year.
The Marvel legend is set to return as Iron Man in the upcoming Black Widow film which also stars everyone’s favourite red-headed vixen Scarlett Johansson in the role of the eponymous protagonist who was scene-stealing in her appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the physically strong and intelligent assassin.
Black Widow also served as a love interest for Captain America and Hulk.
Black Widow is due for release in May 2020 and will be directed by Cate Shortland. The film is a prequel and will chronicle the character’s complex backstory.
Speaking on the film at San Diego Comic-Con, Cate Shortland said, “I think that’s what drew me to the story, Black Widow’s got so many secrets, she’s got so much vulnerability and I think that’s what makes her such a great heroine. In this film, we get to understand her past and put the pieces of herself together and come out a whole person.”
Robert Downey Jr. made his first appearance as Iron Man in 2008 in the original film which marked the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many expected Avengers: Endgame to be Downey Jr’s last time in the role.
