Grime and fashion have always had an interesting, ever changing relationship. With the style of the genre always having gone back and fourth between high fashion labels and tracksuits, MCs have now begun to release full collections of their own. Earlier this year, Novelist collaborated with Joyrich for a capsule collection which joined workwear with streetwear, and now Jammer and LOTM are venturing into the fashion world.
i-D spoke to the LOTM curator about how he met PHIRE’s creator Kiri, and about the collection.
The two met in Visions where Jammer was holding a part for menswear designer Astrid Anderson, where they immediately hit it off. They then ventured to Paris with Ratty to begin the project.
“[…] two people from different places, who understood one another, not through language, through spirit. It came together organically, through conversations, clothes, fashion and music.” – Jammer
Kiri says he proposed the joining to Jammer due to his interest in Japanese culture, and Jammer goes on to explain how although he thought they weren’t initially going to work together, their similar styles and energy meant that it had to happen.
