After five long years, Joey Bada$$ has finally released his third studio album 2000 and seeing as this is the sequel to his classic 1999 mixtape, expectations for this project have been sky high!

When we’re talking about New York City, very few have put on for hip-hop like Diddy so it’s only right that Joey got the legend himself on the intro for the album. He also makes the bold proclamation that Kendrick Lamar, himself, and J. Cole are the best emcees out and defines them as the holy trinity of rap.

With production from Statik Selektah, Chuck Strangers, and his Pro Era brother Kirk Knight, 2000 has that raw, authentic hip-hop substance that has proved popular with Joey’s fanbase for a decade.

Additionally, Joey gives us a surprise Nas appearance and a nostalgic Big Pun reference on “Cruise Control”. Joey hasn’t lost a step with the bars but has found a couple of new flows displayed on songs such as “Where I Belong”.

The album also features a heartfelt tribute to late Pro Era leader Capital Steez on “Survivors Guilt”, as well as a captivating story about XXXTENTACION on “Head High”.

Most of the guest features on the project – such as Westside Gunn, Larry June, and JID – are perfect fits for the album but we do get a more left-field collab in the form of “Welcome Back” with Chris Brown and Capella Grey.
