Snippets have been circling around for a while but Joey Bada$$ has now finally dropped his hugely-anticipated single “Head High”, debuting the song on A Colors Show.
The soulfulness on the Statik Selektah beat provides Joey with the perfect canvas to paint on, and with his beautiful lyrics, he does just that. He contemplates life and stresses the importance of living every moment like it’s your last. A perfect example of everything Joey is rapping about is outlined in his second verse where tells a story about the late XXXTENTACION who was destined for greatness but was sadly killed in 2018.
Near the end of the performance, Joey repeats the powerful words “hugging the block, but the block ain’t hug us back”; touching on jealousy, hatred and the troubles that come from your own neighbourhood when you’re successful.
