Since the release of Joker in October, talks of a sequel have been circling but now it looks like Joker 2 could just be on the way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joker director Todd Phillips “is in talks” to create a sequel, while it has also been reported Warner Bros. have already signed off for a second movie and have presented Joaquin Phoenix – who plays Joker in the film – with options for a second film.
It has also been reported that Phillips is keen to create a “portfolio” of origin story films for several characters from DC.
Joaquin Phoenix recently alluded to a second Joker film, explaining how he and Phillips discussed a sequel prior to the release of the original. Phoenix said: “Long before the release or before we had any idea if it would be successful, we talked about sequels.”
The new news of a Joker sequel comes after it was recently announced the film has grossed over $1 billion worldwide.
