Tottenham Hotspurs’ Head Coach Jose Mourinho has been fired following news that the club have joined the European Super League.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. “Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

“He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

The Portuguese coach was in charge of the north London side for 17 months after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.

Tottenham currently sit at seventh place in the Premier League and have picked up two points in their last three games. The club were knocked out of the Europa League in March and are due to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Mourinho’s departure from Tottenham comes just hours after it was officially revealed Tottenham is one of the six Premier League clubs who have signed up for the European Super League.

According to reports, first-team coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell are set to take charge for the remainder of the season.
