El Chapo, the Mexican gangster who’s had more escapades than Escobar, is at it again…
After being caught at the top end of this year, after 6 months on the run (and time for a sit down chat with Sean Penn?!), he’s potentially got himself in hot water again, after the main judge in his trial was shot dead.
Judge Vicente Bermudez Zacarias, 37, was the main judge in the case against El Chapo. According to Mexico City Newspaper, the judge was jogging outside his home on Monday in Metepec, close to Mexico City.
He was then shot in the head, later sadly dying in hospital.
It’s unclear whether the murder was linked to the high-profile case he was overseeing.
El Chapo is currently being held in a prison in the town of Cudad Juarez, whilst awaiting extradition to the US to face drug trafficking charges.
President Enrique Pena Nieto spoke about the assassination, saying he had instructed the attorney general’s office to lead the investigation.
