With the end of the year fast approaching, our timelines are constantly being flooded with lists reviewing the year’s biggest moments and releases. However, the end of the year also offers us a chance to look back on the year to gain an idea of what to expect in 2019 and that’s exactly what Julie Adenuga has done.

As a presenter on Apple Music’s Beats 1, Julie has mingled with the scene’s biggest stars and knows exactly what’s needed to take artists to the next level. Using her expertise, Julie has compiled a list of six grime artists she expects to go big in 2019.

The artists below have been grafting for several years and if the past twelve months are anything to go by, we can we expect huge things from the six rappers in 2019.

Capo Lee

Julie says: “I like to think of Capo as the vibes master, he always has the tunes I need in the club and in my car. He’s the perfect hype during a stage show. The game needs Capo Lee.”

Melvillous

Julie says: “I’ve been watching and listening to Melvillous for a while now, it’s been sick to see him go from making banging tunes to spitting on DJ sets and murking and also releasing his EP, ‘No Choice’, which was definitely one of my favourite releases of the year. He’s extremely talented and a great representation of a real grime artist.”

Jammz

Julie says: “Lyrically, Jammz is by far one of my favourites. I watched him in the stage production of a play called ‘Poet in da corner’ this year and he reminded me that his lyrical skill is fire. Can’t wait to watch him on tour in the new year.”

Jaykae

Julie says: “I don’ t know if it’s my love for Brummie accents or that Jaykae is the king of pain and honesty in his music. I love listening to him, whether he’s singing football anthems or performing Moscow – I’m in.”

Big Zuu

Julie says: “
There are many sides to Grime and looking at the artists that have been here from the beginning, it’s the people with charisma and style that have lasted the longest. For me, Big Zuu has the kind of personality the game needs. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and really enjoys making and performing his music to his fans.”

Dapz on the Map

Julie says:
“Dapz on the Map is one of the champions of the melodic Grime gang. He adds such a sick side to the landscape of the scene and I love his humility. Really glad he released his album this year and I’m looking forward to watching him build more in 2019.”
