June Brown, most known for her role as Dot Cotton in EastEnders, has sadly passed away at the age of 95.

Brown’s family have announced that she died “very peacefully” at her home on Sunday (April 3).

A statement from Brown’s family reads: “We are deeply saddened to announce our beloved mother, June, passed away very peacefully at her home in Surrey on Sunday evening, with her family by her side.

“We would kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

June Brown first appeared as Dot Cotton in EastEnders in 1985 and stayed until 1993. She returned to the soap in 1997 before leaving in 2020.

Dot Cotton is one of EastEnders longest-running characters and one of the most popular among viewers.

Brown’s other acting credits include Coronation Street, Doctor Who and Play For Today.

An EastEnders spokesperson said: “There are not enough words to describe how much June was loved and adored by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and great humour will never be forgotten.

“June created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not just in soap but in British television, and having appeared in 2884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances created some of EastEnders finest moments.”
